LOS ANGELES - ExerciseTV is on the hunt for America's top fitness trainer.
The on-demand network has teamed with CityVoter, a provider of online consumer guides and contest platforms, to facilitate a voter-based competition that will give one trainer a chance to star on ExerciseTV and create their own workout video.
STORY CONTINUES BELOWAdvertisement The network says the top-trainer contest is the first of its kind.
"We're looking forward to a lot of new faces showing up, and to getting some new talent for ExerciseTV," said general manager Chris Mansolillo.
Mansolillo said he expects over 1,000 fitness professionals to sign up for the contest before the March 23 entry deadline. Trainers can sign themselves up, or be nominated by a client through the ExerciseTV Web site.
Ilyse Baker, a trainer at an Equinox in Los Angeles, said she has no idea who nominated her.
"I just got an email from ExerciseTV one day saying I'd been nominated for top trainer," she said. "I didn't even inquire about who nominated me. I just thought, 'Okay, I guess this is a good thing.'"
Baker has since sent out mass emails to family, friends and clients asking for their vote.
She said if she wins, the title would be a great selling point for her down the road.
"It would be an amazing honor," she said. "I'm at the point where I want to keep moving through the pack, and this would be another distinction on my resume to help me do that."
The top trainer will be announced soon after the voting period closes at the end of March, CityVoter said.
